A lot can happen in 525,600 minutes. When you break it down like that, it doesn’t seem like such a long time. 2018 went by in a flash for us. It seems like it was only a few days ago that we were sitting in our vice president’s office, reviewing 2017 and determining our goals for 2018. Now, all of a sudden, it’s 2019. Last year’s goals, successes, and failures are in the past, and this year is a clean slate and a complete unknown.

We have no complaints about 2018. It was a busy year, and our goals were not only met, but exceeded, thanks to extremely cold weather, our wonderful referral partners, and our hard-working team who showed up every day and got things done.

Most of all, we thank God for allowing us a year like 2018. We were blessed with work, and we were allowed to bless others because of it. What more could anyone ask?

The success of 2018 allowed us to hire more people, and that’s a blessing to us and to our community. It allowed us to grow in capability as well. More will be expected of us than ever. Success raises the bar; sets a higher standard. 2019 has big shoes to fill.

Did anything go wrong in 2018? Of course! There are a lot of moving parts to the disaster restoration business, and new and unusual circumstances arise all the time. In the middle of a catastrophic freeze where you have dozens of jobs going on at once, it can get complicated. Last January, we had several days that didn’t seem long enough, and some days that seemed like they’d never end. But those things are opportunities to reflect on how we can refine our processes and innovate with new ideas.

Cornerstone also experienced a long-planned change in ownership at the end of 2018. The best part is that the company stayed in the same family, with new owners who have been with us for a long time and embrace the same philosophy of integrity, consistency, and innovation.

Was 2018 our best year? Well, we’re going to do our best to make sure it’s not. Look out 2019, here we come!
